Columbia River Adventures offers family-friendly tours of the Columbia River between Castlegar and Trail, British Columbia. These tours provide a unique opportunity to explore the scenic beauty of the river and its vibrant ecosystem. You’ll have the chance to learn about the fascinating history of the river and its people, as well as observe the diverse wildlife that calls the river and its banks home.

During the tour, you’ll have the opportunity to drift down the more secluded sections of the river, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the tranquil surroundings. There will also be shore stops along the way, giving you the chance to explore the river’s unique banks and beaches on foot.

Columbia River Adventures offers tours departing from three different locations: Robson, Genelle, and Trail, British Columbia.
Whether you’re a local or a visitor to the area, these tours are a fantastic way to experience the beauty and wonder of the Columbia River.

The Ecosystem

During a Columbia River Adventure tour, you have the opportunity to spot a wide variety of animals in their natural habitat. Some of the animals you might encounter include:

– Bald eagles: These majestic birds are often seen soaring above the river, hunting for fish.
– Golden eagles: Similar to bald eagles, golden eagles can also be spotted in the area.
– Ospreys: Known for their impressive fishing skills, ospreys can be seen diving into the water to catch their prey.
– Blue herons: These tall, elegant birds can often be found wading in the shallow waters along the riverbanks.
– River otters: Playful and agile, river otters are known for their entertaining antics in the water.
– Beavers: Look out for beaver dams and lodges along the river, as these industrious creatures are common in the area.
– Bears: While sightings are less common, black bears can be spotted near the river.
– Deer and elk: Keep an eye out for these graceful animals grazing in the surrounding forests.
– Coyotes: These elusive creatures are known for their distinctive howls and can sometimes be spotted along the riverbanks.
– Sturgeons: The Columbia River is home to a variety of fish species, including sturgeons, which are known for their large size.
– Various species of waterfowl: From ducks to geese the Columbia River attracts a wide range of waterfowl species.

Jonathan’s extensive knowledge of the river’s wildlife, gained through years of exploring and observing, will make your tour informative and engaging. His passion for the outdoors and connection with nature is infectious, ensuring that you have a truly immersive experience.

In addition to his expertise in wildlife, Jonathan is also a qualified small vessel operator and holds a current Non-Urban Outdoor Emergency Care first aid certificate. With 18 years of experience as a first responder.

Sturgeon Viewing Tours on the Columbia River. 

*these trips are only available mid March to May 1st*

The tours offer a chance to observe the Columbia white sturgeon, which can grow to be over ten feet long and weigh upwards of 400 pounds. These sturgeons are long-lived, with some living to be 100 years or older.

The tours begin in Robson across from The Lion’s Head Pub and explore Sturgeon and their habitat down to Millennium Park in Castlegar. During late spring and early summer months, you can observe the sturgeons in the shallower parts of the river surrounding Castlegar.

Our 18 foot commercial flat bottom vessel is exceptionally stable and equipped we 2 viewing platforms at the bow and stern.  Calmly drift down the river with the current guided by oars and shuttle back up in only a few minutes.

There are different tour options available:

1. Sturgeon Viewing Tours. $299.60 CAD includes 7% PST
– Location: Between the Robson boat launch and Castlegar’s Millennium Park
– Schedule: Weekends in May, June, and July
– Duration: 2 hours
– Group Size: Up to 4 people

2. Experience The River Tours. $406.60 CAD includes 7% PST
– Tour of the Columbia River
– Departures from Castlegar, Genelle, or Trail
– Schedule: Weekends from May through October
– Duration: 3 hours
– Group Size: Up to 4 people

Cancellations & Refunds:
• Free Cancellation (Full Refund):
Cancellations made 7 days or more before your scheduled trip will receive a 100% refund – no questions asked.
• Short-Notice 
Cancellations (Partial Refund):
Cancellations made between 72 hours and 7 days before the trip will receive a 50% refund, or you may reschedule your trip at no extra charge (subject to availability).
• Last-Minute Cancellations (No Refund):
Cancellations made within 72 hours of the trip are non-refundable.

Bad Weather & Safety:
• Your safety always comes first. If we need to cancel or postpone due to unsafe weather or water conditions, you’ll receive a full refund or the option to reschedule your trip.

Illness or Emergencies:
• Life happens. If you need to cancel due to illness or a family emergency, let us know as soon as you can. We’ll handle these situations compassionately and on a case-by-case basis.

How to Cancel or Reschedule:
• Please contact us by phone or email to make any changes to your booking. The more notice you give, the better we can accommodate both you and other guests.
